In our city, Bogotá, there has been this phenomena affecting the surrrounding lands from the urban zone, and also…the trees from our Capital city.
This is due to several reasons, among them are: the need of some people of creating free spaces for new constructions, buildings , streets, highways, sidewalks and so on, as well people want to deforest just for they consider the trees and bushes bother the entrance and exit of some points, additional to this, there is another reason more comprehensible that are the planted trees sometimes break in the streets with their roots and is the necessity of cut themdown for avoid the access roads get damaged.
If you ask me, it's curious that some of this measures have been proposed or executed by the own city major, Enrique Peñalosa, hence, according to the Botanical Garden, the trees were removed because they were sick or are having the risk of falling in the presence of strong winds, which implies a risk for people, regardless of the way they travel through the sector(RCN Radio, 2018). But other people think different and agree in say that this is only due to aesthetical preferences of them.
This actions, independently of they have been thought with good intentions for city development ot not, they carry the implicit decrease of the air quality in the area, in so far as the trees produce oxigen , in the same way it harms the city’s beautiness, since the green points help to see a city with more variety in their sceneries bot built only of cement, but mixing both aspects. Personally, I believe most of the people would agree in keeping forests within and around Bogotá, because we it gives beauty to the landscape, to put it briefly. In conclusssion, is a whole controversy due to this and seems that can nnot be solved easily, though some environmentalists have protested but their voices are not enough to stop this enrironmental issue.
To be honest, is not just a responsibility of the government but we must start from our homes taking care of the nature that surround us. To my mind, it doesn’t matter if we do little but we must do something.
