Environmental problems: Air pollution
During the past few years the planet has suffered
diverse damages due to human activity. Globalization has undoubtedly improved
people’s lives, but it has also contributed to environmental problems like air
pollution. Given this situation, is not weird to see how industrialized
countries like China have the largest rates of air pollution, and it seems to
me that people do not make anything to change it. But what is air pollution?
It is a process that occurs when potentially toxic
substances such as gases, are introduced into the atmosphere, causing the air
to be contaminating and dangerous. Air pollution causes breathing problems and
allergies that can affect people’s health. However, natural activity can
generate air pollution, as it is the case of an active volcano that introduces
ashes to the atmosphere.
Lately, it this problem has been getting worse because
people do almost anything to end air pollution. It is not unknown that carbon
dioxide sends out by cars is one of the main causes of air pollution. From my
perspective, people could start walking to work and reducing the amount of
times they use their cars; this would lead to a cleaner atmosphere.
From my point of view, air pollution has not been seen
as a dangerous environmental problem because big cities do not seem to take
care of the situation. I am under the impression that when it comes to
contamination, people start recycling to take action, but they do not do the
same to decrease air pollution. For example, if someone smokes, they could try
quitting cigarettes for a year and start contributing to a cleaner air.
I think that countries like China should adopt
sustainable transportation forms like the Netherlands, where the majority of
people go to work by bike. It is really strange to get stuck in traffic there.
Countries that stablish these kind of strategies have
a cleaner, purer air because the citizens have an environmental consciousness
and they know how to protect the planet. It seems to me that if we adopt that culture,
we would live better. In my opinion, we
would not have many diseases if we lived sustainably, and people could walk in
the streets without worrying about getting a lungs illness. I hold the view
that we should be conscious and think of the upcoming generations future.
